Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union the international project “Intercultural Education through Physical Activity, Coaching and Training” (EDU-PACT) is coordinated by the Centre of Sport Science and University Sports from Vienna University.
Cooperation partners from university side are the German Sport University Cologne, the University of Rome “Foro Italico”, the University of Southern Denmark at Odense, and the “National and Kapodistrian” University Athens. Greece additionally is represented in the project by its Ministry of Culture and Sport. Further project partners are international organisations like the International Council for Coaching Excellence / European Coaching Council (ICCE-ECC), the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC), and the organization Right to Play Germany.
Background of the project is that the increasing cultural heterogeneity poses new challenges to both sport related teaching professions in school- and club sports where teachers and trainers feel insufficiently prepared to deal with this new situation. Based on a condition- and needs analysis the project aims to develop new guidelines, training concepts and modules to improve quality of pre-service and in-service education strengthening the professional profile of teachers and coaches for inclusive intercultural education in and through physical education and sport. These developed instruments for pre- and in-service inclusive intercultural education will be implemented in pilot projects aiming to train multipliers and will be validated and adapted by international experts in a further step.
In the final project year (2020), but also following the lifetime of the project lessons learned, guidelines, project materials and modules will be introduced in international seminars, conferences, workshops and implemented in pre service and further professional development programmes.
