Our PhD student, currently head of data science at the VfB Stuttgart, presented the work “Validated risk and reward measures for the analysis of football passing”, co-authored by Juliana Exel and Arnold Baca. The goal of this study was to validate the predictive quality of ground pass simulation in order to determine its usefulness as a reliable way of identifying key passes using measures of risk and reward. The model proved to be able to determine the risk and reward of passes, which has significant implications for practical applications, such as the evaluation of player decision making and the improvement of game strategies.
